Jarice Butterfield, Ph. D. & Salina Butterfield, TBI Survivor and Assistant
Hi, I am doctor Jarice Butterfield. I was raised on a ranch in Eastern Idaho and have been riding horses since I was three years old. My passion in life is working with children. My training and background is in working with children and adults with disabilities, to include mental health disorders. I have started equine therapy programs in public schools in California and have been involved in my daughter Salina’s equine therapy for over 17 years. Salina sustained a traumatic brain injury at the age of 17. I firmly believe that it was through equine therapy that she was able to attain the skills she has today. She was told that she would never walk again. She now rides Flicka weekly! I have seen equine therapy work miracles with children and adults. I have seen adults with MS that were bed ridden become involved and mobile once again. I have seen children with autism speak and learn to show emotion. I have seen the power it can have with children that have been exposed to trauma and abuse. I believe that relationships with animals can build self-esteem, as well as consistent riding can build and strengthen muscular systems. The end goal is to provide enjoyment and fun while working towards targeted goals during the equine experience.
Hi there! I’m Lauren!
I’ve been connected to horses since I was 8 years old, and over the years, my passion for these incredible animals has grown into a deep love for using them to help others. Now, at 25, I’m fortunate enough to share that love and the therapeutic benefits of horses with others through equine therapy.
My approach is rooted in patience, compassion, and a genuine desire to support each individual’s unique journey. I believe in the transformative power of horses. Not only for physical healing but for emotional growth as well.
Whether someone is stepping into the world of equine therapy for the first time or has previous experience, I strive to create a safe, empowering environment where they can build trust, confidence, and well-being.
Working with horses has taught me a lot about resilience, connection, and healing, and I’m excited to be able to guide others in their own process of growth.
